FAQ: What areas of Florida does Custom Textures work in?
ANSWER: We cover most of the South Florida Area. Our primary work is in the southeastern portion of Florida, but we have done many jobs along Florida’s west coast and even into the central Florida area.
FAQ: How much of my drywall project will Custom Textures do?
ANSWER: We are a full service company and can handle all phases of your drywall job, from the framing to the finished textures. Additionally, if you’re doing new construction with a stucco exterior, we would be happy to bid that portion of your project also.
FAQ: Will Custom Textures do renovations and repairs or only new construction?
ANSWER: We are a full service corporation and do many, many repair and renovations. No job is too small for us.
FAQ: Exactly what is drywall made of? Are there any environmental issues or safety issues in using it?
ANSWER: Drywall is often called gypsum, wallboard, sheetrock or plasterboard. It is made of a crumbly fire resistant substance called gypsum which is wrapped in a thick paper coating. Most walls and ceilings built in the last 40 years are covered with drywall. There are no environmental issues that should concern you. Your contractor should remove any unused pieces of drywall and clean up any mess that might have been created.
FAQ: How will I know if my contractor is using the correct product for my job, such as size and thickness of the board?
ANSWER: You should only hire a contractor with a good reputation and verifiable experience. However, you can check your local building code for the specific sizes required, but the most commonly used drywall thickness is 1/2" and 5/8". Sheet sizes can vary, depending on the dimensions of your room.
FAQ: I noticed that the drywall being used in our bathrooms is more expensive than the drywall in other rooms. Could you please explain to me what “green board” is?
ANSWER: Green board is a moisture resistant drywall specially treated for use in bathrooms and other damp areas. There is also fire resistive drywall for use around heaters and other sources of heat. Both types of wallboard are more expensive than the standard drywall, but are necessary to protect the walls from damage.
FAQ: Can I choose the finish that I want on the walls of our new home?
ANSWER: There are a variety of wall finishes and textures available, but you should keep in mind that some of them will likely be considered an upgrade by your contractor and will likely cost more money. Be sure to include your choice of finish in your contract so that there is no misunderstanding between you and your general contractor.
FAQ: I would like to have the popcorn removed from the ceiling of my home and have knock-down sprayed on to make it look more modern. Will I have to remove all my furniture from the house?
ANSWER: Your contractor will need to be able to move around easily, so some items may need to be removed for his ease of movement. Also, breakable items should be put in a safe place. Your contractor will cover all the walls, floors and furniture with plastic before he starts. However, it will likely be necessary for you and your family to stay someplace else for a couple of days, until the work is complete and the waste taken away.
FAQ: I want to have some cracks and holes repaired on the walls of my home. They are finished with a knock-down texture. Will I be able to match the existing texture?
ANSWER: This is something that the contractor will have to see to be sure of the best method and to determine the outcome. Basically, a very wide variety of textures can be matched by an experienced drywall company. If it’s not possible to match your existing texture for some reason, your contractor can discuss the available choices for you to choose from.
FAQ: I removed the wall paper from the walls in my bedroom and ripped some of the drywall paper off in the process. I now have all the wall paper off, but I’m afraid to paint because the surface looks so uneven. What should I do?
ANSWER: One possible solution is to have the wall skim-coated to even it out. This process is applying a thin layer of drywall compound to the entire damaged wall area. Another is to actually install new 1/4" sheetrock over the existing damaged drywall. You should contact a drywall professional for advice and ideas.
FAQ: I would like to have rounded corners installed in our new home, instead of square corners. Would this be a very expensive upgrade?
ANSWER: Rounded corners would be considered an upgrade and accordingly would cost more money, but if financially feasible, can be very visually pleasing. Talk with your builder about the cost and if you choose to go ahead with the rounded corners, be sure to have it written into you contract.
